A layer of very clear ice covers rocks near the edge of a lake. The closeup of one of the rocks shows a cluster of small white bubbles of varying size inside the ice. The bubbles are all clustered together over one rock, they look like tiny little fluffy cotton balls encased in glass. A layer of ice sits a few inches above a lower ice layer. The sun behind reveals the 1-2 inch space between the layers, highlighting the rounded pillars of super shiny glossy ice holding up the top layer. The low sun glints off everything. This slightly different angle, with the sun more to the side, focuses on one small pillar of ice. The light dances off all the different facets, highlighting the brights and shadows and colors in the ice.

I don’t think I’ve painted since I got here? Anyway. Pulled them out tonight. Was watching a tutorial and they described painting waves in a way that finally clicked in my brain. So, had to give it a go. I kind of hate painting wet into wet (left side). #watercolor #waterscape #oceanscaoe
Two watercolor pieces lay side by side on a black a white blanket. Both are simple, dark blue ocean scapes. The left piece isn’t finished because wet into wet watercolor takes a bit to dry well enough to add another layer. The piece on the right was wet onto dry. This is my preferred method. The lines and edges are much sharper, there is more color layering already, but there is still evidence of the magic blending of watercolor in the shading on the waves. Below the paintings lay a cluster of 5 water pens.

And here’s Radar standing in front of the old Skeena river bridge and train trestle. The river is very very low right now.

I followed a bunch of news and political people awhile ago and now I wish I hadn’t. Anyway, please enjoy this much more pleasant photo of a kid standing on top of a tire swing that’s hanging from a giant old tree, swinging and looking out at the Douglas Channel in Kitimat.

A misty scene of a lake through a mess of twigs. There appears to be a graceful long necked dinosaur about to take a sip from the lake just beyond the shrubs. It’s really a tree branch covered in varying clumps of moss. Two thick tree trunks frame a view of a small pond with an evergreen forest on the other side. A little ways out from the shore the water turns to ice, most of the lake is frozen, in the middle of the photo a rope dangles. Quiet and still. Until summer returns and it gets back to swinging and flinging joyfully squealing people into the refreshing lake. A small frozen lake with layers of fog and mist. In the foreground is a blurred mossy log with the winter skeletons of small plants. Across the lake is an evergreen forest. Midway across the lake is a small mossy island, barely more than a few inches out of the water, but it is home to optimistic shrubs and a small tree, just waiting for spring so they can burst their leaf buds. Through a frame of cedar branches hangs a larger tree branch covered generously and gracefully with old man’s beard hanging moss. It hangs in long tendrils reaching towards the lake below. It is delicate and beautiful like long flowing hair or pieces of delicate lace or flowy ethereal fabric.

I don’t know if these all qualify for #ThickTrunkTuesday but I wanted to share them anyway. There’s so many weird and cool trees up here in Northwest BC.
A tree, long dead, but still upright, that a beaver once tried to take on. The beaver chewed away a significant portion of the trunk near the bottom, but it never finished the job. So now a thick trunk, larger than I can out my arms around, balances on a spindly middle that probably has a circumference of 12-14 inches. Tree 1, Beaver 0. The trunk of this tall evergreen tree, overlooking a misty pond, isn’t very thick, but the root system is huge and exposed above the ground from years of rain erosion. It stretches out a long way from the base of tree, root fingers stretching every which way to keep itself upright and find nutrients. Three dogs, a Whippet in a black plaid coat with red collar, a Shih Tzu in a blue sweater, and a naked Lagotto Romagnolo, stand in a single file line on top of a very large decaying fallen tree trunk. Even on the ground the tree trunk is still much taller than any of the dogs. A woman with grey curly hair, wearing a grey coat stands behind the huge log, staring off into the distance.

For lack of a better word, I think my motto or theme or focus for 2025 needs to be: Pets, Parts, and Pictures.
We’ll see if I can actually keep that mostly in mind. Here, have a picture of my whippet to uphold that last theme.

While searching every room from top to bottom for my missing Velcro, I came across my glow stars. These things give me so much glee, I had to put some up. 😁

I was wearing my new-off-FB-marketplace riding boots around the house tonight to get used to them before next spring. I figured I should actually see how they feel on the bike, they’re not too bad.

Radar had her surgery today. It went well. I was so fucking worried this morning, so huge relief when they called to say it was all good.

They didn’t get the entire tumor, but they took as much as they could. So hopefully it’s slow AF to regrow itself.

14 days until stitches come out 😬

Here’s the final cake house I built in Minecraft for my nephews 11th birthday. It’s two stories and there is also a lot of cake inside. And furniture. We’ll see what he thinks of it after school on Friday.

Well, Radar will be going into surgery in the next hour sometime. Dropped her off at 7:50. Gabapentin AND trazodone = pretty dopey, but still NOT interested in staying at the vet. Also got acepromazine just before we went. So hopefully she is soon dopey enough to not be so anxious.

When I ordered the rear paddock stand for my #SV650s I didn’t get the front stand as well (because, dumb 🤷🏻‍♀️) so this is my probably overly optimistic hack job idea to maybe prevent square tire syndrome.
Anyway, I finally got the battery pulled out today. Stupid winter.

Hopefully the thick foam noodle will keep yhe tire from developing a flat spot from sitting all winter. The bike is parked for winter on a cement floor with cardboard underneath to catch any possible drips.

I love this dog more than life itself.

I built a Minecraft cake house last night so I could make this screenshot for my nephew’s birthday card.

The weather has warmed a little, enough for a no boots walk with Radar.

I don’t do a lot of photography anymore, but here’s a few photos I took up the Nass valley last month.
