It’s a currency that has so far relied on deflation in order to stay relevant.

The point wasn’t to show off your chops … the point was to play some of the most complex and bizarre music with soul and the deepest of pockets. Insane chops were required just to play these songs. (Also before the politics stuff.)

This is the 1974 band. Pinnacle Zappa, IMO. By the 80s, it was like the Zappa bands were too good - you’d listen just because they were so good. The 72-74 bands, though? Quietly some of the best musicians in the world. …
