Different but also similar story on previous holidays around German and Belgian forests. They’re almost all ‘managed’ forests, meaning people can go in and cut down trees. This is supposedly humans working with nature but it just means it’s degraded habitat.

I just got back from holidaying in the Pyrenees. Fantastic hiking, lovely! But it made me very sad that in all but some parks on the Spanish side, the entire range is overgrazed by livestock. You go hiking at 1800m and there’s sheep, cows, and grassland where there should be woodland.
