Please feel free to reach out.  Heard feedback on bills affecting the sex offender registry, income tax rates, and lawn watering, along with a lot of feedback on HB261, HB257, HB214.  I oppose all those and working with like-minded legislators on strategies to defeat them in their current forms.

Who is trying to influence me today?  I attended a breakfast provided by the Utah State Board of Education discussing their budget priorities.  I am going to stop by the Faith and Advocacy Coalition to End Hunger and Homelessness meeting this morning.

Rep. Stoddard has a very interesting bill clarifying that when you are turning left and the light turns red, you are not liable for damages when a car going straight in the opposite direction runs the red when you are otherwise legally entitled to complete your left turn. le.utah.gov/~2024/bills/...

This afternoon, the Transportation Committee will have its first meeting.  There are several interesting bills on the agenda; Rep. Ballard is bringing back her Safe Routes to Schools bill, which I think we need to be more assertive with UDOT, cities, and local education agencies

Next we have some floor time, still discussing interim bills but we may get some other bills tomorrow or Monday. le.utah.gov/FloorCalenda...

There will be the first RFAs presented--these are requests for appropriations; legislators, on behalf of institutions, ask for budget line items and have to convince our committee to prioritize their request in budget recs to the Executive Appropriations Committee, then to full House and Senate.

The Days on the Hill day are the Primary and Preventative Care Day and Local Officials Day, and then lunch will be with city councils and youth city councils.  Hoping to see some of West Valley and Taylorsville's council members there. #utpol #utleg

As far as who is trying to influence me, yesterday there was one event hosted in the evening by the Utah Manufacturers Association and Utah Beverage Association that I attended.

In the meantime, I am working to get my bills passed.  I had some good discussions with some legislators yesterday on my first three bills out.  Also, an interview I conducted with Kelly Chapman at Fox 13 about my minimum wage bills was aired on their 9 PM newscast last night.

Today will be a bit of a slow day for me to get going, as I only have floor time today.  I didn't have any bills assigned to one committee I am on--Economic Development and Workforce Services, so this afternoon's meeting of that committee was canceled.

I'm a little behind on emails but please do reach out to me if you have anything you think I should be looking at today.
Thanks! #utpol #utleg

Coming up today is Nonprofit Day on the Hill, with many different nonprofit organizations in the rotunda talking about many different issues.  I've already been contacted by several and will be meeting with them first; if you know a nonprofit coming to the hill today, please reach out. #utpol #utleg

As far as who is influencing me today, I started this morning with a breakfast provided by the Salt Lake Valley Coalition to End Homelessness, and specifically sat with a gentleman named Lawrence who has started the Deseret Defiant Initiative to work on supporting sanctioned camping.  #utpol #utleg

More importantly, these first bills were passed out of interim committees unanimously, so they are relatively uncontroversial, but if any of these have something you think I should take a look at, please let me know. #utpol #utleg

The bills that should be on the board today are interim committee bills, that means they were discussed from May to November of 2023 where each committee took time to discuss them.  #utpol #utleg
