My favorite are the crossover seasons, where sometimes you see two at the same time. I took this photo in the Chilean Fjords in April, Autumn in the southern hemisphere. Snow was falling in the mountains just a few hundred feet above sea level.

Local birds love foraging for seeds on old flower heads. It's one reason we don't cut everything back at the end of the season. The dead plants provide food for wildlife and a winter home for insects.

A perfectly manicured landscape isn't always what's best for the ecosystem.

Just before the snow fell, I got out on the water for some photos. Now so much is iced over!

Lately I've been watching birds forage outside my office window every morning. I keep my camera nearby to snap photos throughout the day. This one's an American Goldfinch. They're much brighter in spring and summer, but turn more brown in winter.

November colors in Maine. Not as flashy as October, but pretty nonetheless!

The autumn colors are almost entirely gone here in Maine. While canoeing a river, I saw this small patch of colors along the bank lit by the sun.

It's cloudy here in Maine. So while I wait, hoping for the clouds to part and the Aurora to peak through, I'm taking photos of trees against the starless sky

There's so much symmetry that you can only get from a canoe or kayak!

Seaweed is insanely slippery to walk on. I found that an old pair of microspikes gives just enough grip to get close to the waves on rocky beaches. Still sketchy, but at least possible.

I love finding creatures in our flower field, which has made me realize how much pesticides can impact things. Sure, they kill the pests you're targeting, but they also end up affecting a bunch of other species and the ecosystem as a whole.

Did you know that Maine is the most forested state in the country. 9 out of every 10 acres is covered in trees. Makes you wonder what the rest of the country looked like 500 years ago.

I took this photo at a local land trust, right before the fall colors really started popping. It was taken in a rare Atlantic White Cedar forest in Southern Maine, though the tree in the foreground is a birch.

A simple shot in the North Cascades. I tried hard to find a composition where the trees framed the mountains.

Zinnias are amazing flowers with layers of color and texture. The pollinators love them too. This is a stack of 3 images to get everything in focus.

I had a business trip to Washington last week. I also took the opportunity to take a tent with me and explore the Mount Baker Wilderness. I'm still going through the photos, but here's one shot I particularly like.
