Surprised since I've been banging on about Parallel Cinema for over a decade now and have a PhD in the field, and have curated on the subject too. It was written with the general reader in mind so do feel it is broadly accessible to anyone interested in Indian Cinema.

Bit disappointed that hardly any of the major film publications in India bothered to cover my book on Parallel Cinema. Seems to have gone completely under the radar. Not seeking validation, etc. but would be nice to have more people know and talk about it.

Also, the version screened at @cineredis.bsky.social is the slightly longer restoration so comes in at 112 min. There is the 83 min version which is straight from the 35mm print that Arsenal had in the archive.

It offers a really fascinating transnational detour in his career but I don't think it is reflected in his filmography and which suggests his work demands further study and excavation.
