Deepseek may be a bombshell disrupter of the AI market, but, currently, it’s not nearly as good as ChatGPT or Claude. Hallucinates much more and much, much less “creative”.

Astonished at the rare event we saw: TikTok decided to close up in the USA rather than sell for $150 BILLION. “Name your price” was, essentially offered, and that’s basically never turned down these days.

This David Lynch short film, shot with a Lumiere camera, is a real favorite of mine. It is filled a near-minute of cosmic horror and twilight dread. The burning scene change is astonishing.

Goyaesque. Kafkaesque. Lynchian.

An immortal.

Mulholland Drive is probably the best movie I’ve ever seen. Transcendent. RIP David Lynch.

Not sure if he was a mentor, precisely, but Hyman Rickover, the father of the nuclear Navy, was a huge influence on Jimmy Carter. Love this exchange.

Always curious why horror movies are in “Period”. 1922 Nosferatu took place in “the past”, but the update takes place in the same “past”.

Even more odd with Dracula, which was a VERY modern/contemporary book. Adaptations should be contemporary, just as the book was.

Unsure how many people mention this in the fiat vs gold vs crypto “debate”, such as it is, but crypto faces a (very small,
But always increasing) extinction-by-digital-innovation.

Cash and gold have mighty flaws, but they are more structural and physical.

What type of media has scared you the most?

A movie?
A Book?
An image?
A ghost story?

I’ve seen a lot of scary movies, but there are parts of books, even Wikipedia articles, that really, really keep me up at night.

The response to Brian Thompson getting shot in the street reminded me of the attempted assassination of Henry Frick. Something much, much larger under the surface here: www.wesa.fm/archives/201...

This Cormac McCarthy stuff is just a dead-end of ghoulish examination.

People have really got to separate who artists are and what they produce. They’re two entirely different things.

Was late 80s Tyson the most famous guy in the country? The planet? Was trying to figure out JUST how popular he was with my wife.

This is what’s referenced in Ferris Bueller about Tariffs. Fun name for a really bad law that extended the Great Depression about 6 years.
