In the end, #StarTrek #Section31 commits the ultimate sin of not meeting MY expectations and taking the story in a completely different direction.

But if I divest myself from those unmet expectations, no matter how much the franchise fed them to me, I very much like the film and hope to see more.

And have a huge, positive impacts, hitherto unseen in #StarTrek canonical history. It had the chance to explore the history of and maybe even justify what is the most controversial aspect of the Federation: #Section31 itself.

There was so much potential, but this film just shat all over that.

And #Section31 hand waves it all away with a half of a line of dialogue, and never revisits it again.

It was Georgio’s story, her character, that kept me on the line for however many years it’s taken to get this movie out. It was her story and the potential of how her character arc could go back

It feels like a slap in the face to Michelle Yeoh, who through two and half seasons created one of the most wonderfully complex and captivating characters in the entire #StarTrek franchise. When we left Georgiou, her story was at a pinnacle. It was incomplete, left on a cliffhanger…

#Section31 and its lead character have an established, and UNFINISHED, story based on the first 3 seasons of #StarTrekDiscovery. My biggest criticism, and my greatest disappointment with this film is that it does ABSOLUTELY NOTHING with that, which feels like a slap in the face to me as a fan, AND…

That said… #Section31 is not a pilot for a series nor is it a stand alone film introducing us to an all crew and adventure, and that’s what I feel that Kurtzman and crew at @startrek and @paramountplus.bsky.social have forgotten.

Regardless, there will still be a vocal set of Trekkies, mostly all with podcasts and YouTube channels, who will hate it and decry it…cause that’s what Trekkies do.

To my fellow Trekkies, I’d simply say I am batting for the same team you are here. But we all know this is true with every new series.

And a #Section31 series would certainly attract new viewers to the #StarTrek franchise where a federation/ship-based show would not. The action/adventure aspect of the show provides an easy on-ramp for those with preconceived notions of Trek and those completely new with a vague curiosity of Trek.

The entire #Section31 cast, led by Michelle Yeoh is perfectly selected. The characters feel simultaneously fully realized, but unexplored, and a series order could prove these to be some of favorite characters is all of Trek.

There are so many paths they could explore in #Section31 series. And while the movie may have been lacking in the message thing that #StarTrek does so well, an episodic series could really explore a whole mess of topics that Trek has only scratched the surface of & it can explore it from a new POV.

This is news to me. Very sad here in Free State Of Florida, All Hail the Great Potentate.
