I wanted to find a unique angle to emphasize the pachyrhinosaurus bull’s horns. I ended up pulling inspiration from the windmills in Dutch polder painters like Paul Gabriël. The style ended up bleeding into a lot of the color choices as well in a way I’m really happy with.

I was honored to create this illustration to accompany the discovery of Breugnathair elgolensis a newly discovered genus of reptile that shares traits of both lizards and snakes.
Congratulations and special thanks to the authors!

Paraiso Lodge in Costa Rica’s Talamanca Mountains is famed for its close views of fiery-throated hummingbirds. Often overlooked, the lodge’s elevation offers a stunning view of the Central Valley. While it was tempting to zoom in, the added context made it my favorite shot of the trip.

I’ve spent the past couple weeks recovering from a deviated septum surgery. Every evening, I sat on the front porch watching this Orbweaver tend to its web. I discovered if I shot wide open and lined up the spider with the neighbors garage lights, I could outline it with bokeh.

Sharing a late #portfolioday to check in and say I’m not dead, just very busy with optometry school lately

I’ll have new art to share soon, including a spiritual successor to this old piece of mine so stay tuned!

Since today is Pokemon day I thought it would be a good time to share my fakemon project I’ve been working on lately! I have much less time to do art in optometry school so this has been keeping me creative while I focus on my studies :)

This morning I came across a group of birds eating from a fallen oak branch. I dug a little hole in the snow and waited for them to return.
To my surprise a gorgeous male red bellied woodpecker flew in!
Here are some shots from the encounter 📸 ❄️

For the non birdwatchers out there they are considered one of the trickier ID’s of eastern North America. They vary quite a bit, this example shows two on the more extreme end of each species
