Walter Brueggemann: rest in peace. I’m grateful to have known him, and I’m honored to have followed him at CTS. May his memory be a blessing.

William Yoo’s new book, “Reckoning with History,” launches tonight. It is an important study of the impact of settler colonialism and racism on the American church. Check it out here: a.co/d/c34Cf0O

This is an excellent discussion of something that’s causing an increasing number of problems — including the erosion of public spaces, the very notion of the public good, and democracy itself.

There were so many chance encounters led to great conversations at the SBL meeting last week. I’m deeply sorry for those who, due to health, money, family obligations, and many other reasons, could not attend. But density of physical proximity generates possibilities that would not occur otherwise.

After a string of great papers, took a couple hours out of the day to walk along the beach in La Jolla and enjoy the sea lions and seals. Amazing! #sblaar24

Some tips for those who may be attending #SBLAAR for the first time:

One of my #SBLAAR tips: get outside every now and again. There are two little parks behind the convention center and a walkway all right on the water. This is a nice places to move, get some sunshine, etc. Or walk into the gaslight district. Don’t forget you are a human with a body!
