“I hated to see that. I know Mickey personally and really think a lot of him. We’ve known each other for quite some time now before either one of us came out west.”

Brian Wright on his connection with Mickey Mental, who Weber State parted ways with as head coach last week.

“We would like to be even more efficient at that part of the game than what we were the other day.”

NAU head coach Brian Wright reaffirmed that there were personnel issues on the Cal Poly Hail Mary last week, but said he liked how explosive the offense was during that stretch.
November 17, 2025 at 9:54 PM
“Both those guys were dangerous with their legs, certainly. I thought Grigsby, when he came in was able to make just maybe a few more plays in the passing game.”

NAU has faced two-quarterback systems all year. Brian Wright said both of Cal Poly’s posed a threat on Saturday.

“It didn’t affect play calling at all. Typically we have all three of those guys ready to roll. Today it was really just Seth and Hub, but it didn’t affect anything.”

NAU’s second-leading rusher Quran Gossett was out with an ankle injury. NAU still had 139 rushing yards.

“We’ve seen multiple different formations. We knew they were going to motion a lot, so just reading my keys, having my eyes in the right spot, kind of just making a play after that.”

Jaylan Wesley has 2 interceptions for the second time this year, this time off 2 quarterbacks.

“It’s just a huge blessing. I’d just like to thank my lord and savior and also Ty, the linemen, the other receivers. I can’t do what I do without them.”

Kolbe Katsis was the first Lumberjack with three receiving touchdowns since 2019. He had an NAU-best 148 receiving yards.
November 16, 2025 at 8:28 PM
“A cool accomplishment, but it comes with the guys that surround me. The receivers, great players all over the field, you saw Kolbe do his thing today.”

Ty Pennington became the ninth NAU QB to reach 5,000 passing yards with the Lumberjacks, doing so in just 23 games.
November 16, 2025 at 7:45 PM
“Unfortunately we couldn’t put it away earlier in the game, but our team showed a lot of fight today. Each side of the ball had the other’s backs. We came up with the W, that’s all the matters.”

Ty Pennington and Kolbe Katsis on finishing games and playing for each other.
November 16, 2025 at 6:27 AM
“We’re always trying to get 11 involved in the game plan. He’s a special player, special human being.”

NAU had a season-low six pass catchers against Cal Poly. Brian Wright said his goal is always to spread the ball around, but Kolbe Katsis has had a greater focus of late.
November 16, 2025 at 6:16 AM
The final 1:14 of the first half saw 25 points scored, ending with a Cal Poly Hail Mary from 57 yards out.

Brian Wright: “We didn’t put Jayson Raines back there. He’s one of our guys that helps us in that situation, and I didn’t have him back there.”
November 16, 2025 at 6:01 AM
NAU head coach Brian Wright on the decision to go for it on 4th and 1 at the NAU 27-yard line in the final minute.

“I’m trying to win the game in that situation and put a lot of faith on our veteran group on offense. I wanted to win the ball in the hands of the offense.”
