The thing itself is pretty great. I can't say the price is ideal, and the wait for delivery is absurd, but the product itself works as advertised and I've ultimately been really pleased with mine. User-friendly emulation outside of first-party subscriptions.

Ah, that's a bummer. I picked it back up again (through RB4) and it was a blast, but so many on-disc songs from RB 1-3 I still want to revisit.

I found it part of the charm, like when the explosion effect had multiple rib cages or an unusual number of femurs. The more "realistic" the series got about its violence, the less it appealed to me. Artists on the early games weren't getting PTSD watching reference material (Looney Tunes).

Definitely going to be some metal weapons flying thrown at our hero and then diverted by very powerful magnetic imaging equipment. Sounds like fun!

There are very few people in a position to do crucial work and I hope they feel a moral obligation to do it rather than let it fall to people who are less well-situated and would be taking on much bigger risks to do it.

I'm not a big fan of mystery boxes either, but they have less control over the experience so they can't engineer compulsion loops the same way. Neither is really great, but I don't think they're quite as close a parallel as it might seem at first glance.
