After a three year publishing hiatus, I was given the chance to write this essay for Business Insider's parenting vertical. I definitely sought my adult sons' permission ahead of time. I hope it resonates!

On my Instagram feed, my sons seemed like ideal kids, and I seemed like the perfect mom. Neither of those things was true.
My kids got high, had unprotected sex, and had their own kids young. But I don't think I was a bad mom.

I haven't been to a conference since (yikes) 2014, so I'm out of the loop when it comes to conference protocol. I'm a freelance book editor (copy/developmental/proofreading). Any advice from fellow 2024 ACES conf. attendees re: which sessions to join? The biggest skill I lack is marketing myself!

I've been binge reading Stephen King since late last year (starting w Fairy Tale). I'd been a big King fan in my 20s but fell into the "I only read memoir" camp after college. After my divorce I decided all reading was good reading if I liked it. Now as an editor, I can't imagine snubbing any genre.
