Continually fixing but loving my 145 Boxer, MK1 Ka, M59 Partner ‘Escapade’, MK1 Kangoo Trekka, Type S Civic, R56 Cooper & Kadjar.
So, what led to Wilberts ultimate demise?

Undetected diesel leak contaminated the timing belt, which was only fitted back in July.

Not personally seen one as bad as this before.

Deal done. £350.

Lots of small jobs and thanks to his sacrifice, Wilbert will donate a lot of parts over.

Her name is Poppy.

Quick look at the crank pulley on Wilbert. That is one chewed belt!

Discussions underway in Casa Evans on whether to brave a 2nd rebuild this year.

In other news, this turned 30 today and is being moved over to the house in 2 weeks for a winter of very much overdue fettle and re-panelling.

Game over

Things not going well with Ruby the Trekka. 1 months ago, failed power steering pump. Last week, failed alternator. Last night….😢

Belt was only changed 2 months ago.

Being recovered tomorrow before the strip down and repair begins.

Eldest is determined to have his Trekka back on the road today.

Been 5 weeks of part bingo, sickness and weather dodging, but he’s nearly there.

180kw charger not being honest again…

Whilst checking for a much needed OTA update, I stumbled on the fact I can change the clocks on the I5 to ‘classic’ which mirrors those @hubnut.bsky.social had displayed in the Inster. Result.

I’d say the air filter was due a change…

It’s true, and I completely agree too 🙂

Running the Karcher hoover off the onboard 230v 3 pin socket to clean out all the cars, is a convenience I didn’t know I needed.

Yet to try the V2L adapter.

Dunster Castle, can highly recommend. Melted in the heat, but pre conditioning the Ioniq 5 is just a luxury I didn’t know I needed.

What. A. Journey!

Advisory free I might add. 🥳

Sitrep.

Friday came and went and he was nowhere near finished, however yesterday there was BIG progress!

Sadly, a split radiator hose has put a stop to today’s MOT attempt. Part due tomorrow and MOT attempt number 3 scheduled for Wednesday.

He should have been scrap.
Long live Wilbert!

Progress made and replacement piston in.

Build up starts tomorrow with a refurbished head and new head rebuild kit poised and ready.

Am I mad to be aiming for a Friday MOT? #WeirdCarBS

Of course the replacement piston was wrong despite the listing providing the correct part number.

Naturally the seller was happy to rectify the error…….

Correct (hopefully) part due tomorrow from a more reputable seller. #eBayFun

My son now daily’s as his first car my old Kangoo Trekka.

Centre bearing went long ago and whilst there’s plenty of replacement bearings for sale, prop has no non-specialist way of separating.

Whole prop replacements are out there mind, which is next on his list to return her to 4wd

Rare public charging session for ‘Dave’.

Had him 6 weeks and travelled 3530 effortless miles in that time.

London tomorrow, Birmingham Saturday, Swansea Sunday.

Unexpected find on Copart this evening. ‘Bertie the Berlingo’ as named by Chris, who often would appear @hubnut.bsky.social @misshubnut.bsky.social socials, Berlingo/Partner meets and FOTU.

Sad to see, but even more determined to fix Wilbert.

Replacement head and piston due this week.

Not ideal
June 8, 2025 at 4:01 PM
Absolutely this. Currently stripping the engine on Wilbert for the third and what I pray is the final time.

All the stories on the horrors of the 1.6 HDI are, if nothing else, watered down.

Ioniq 5 efficiency insight for this evening.

Car is averaging 3.7 miles per KWH.
I’ve added 303.9 KWH since home charger was installed, which has cost, on a EV specific tariff, a total of £45.83.

Broadly, I’m achieving 24.53 miles for each £1 spent.
