The traditional mulled-wine end-of-year gathering of the institute. Józsi Mihály bid farewell to our director, Miklós, who is retiring. He thanked Miklós for his years of dedication, wisdom, and positive attitude, and wished him warm regards for his future adventures and well-deserved relaxation.

Another successful PhD defense at the institute, this time online. Abdullah Khaldoon Sadiq Ahmed completed his PhD work under the supervision of Lajos Mátés. We warmly congratulate Khaldoon on the successful defense!

The Genetics Institute’s participation in this year’s Science Expo was once again a great success. At the joint booth with the SZTE Department of Genetics, visitors lined up with great interest. The program’s title was “The Fruit Fly in the Service of Medicine.”

On the Genetics Institute's usual June excursion this year, the destination was Szarvas. The arboretum, dragon boat racing, Mini Hungary Model Park, buffet lunch, heat, and good vibes.

The PhD students of the Genetics Institute went on a three-day excursion to the Mecsek Mountains. They visited the Abaliget Cave, Orfű, the Bat Museum, and hiked in the mountains. Thanks to Helga Ézsiás and Viktor Honti for organizing it!

Two researchers, Zsolt Czimmerer and Gyula Timinszky from our Institute have been awarded the NKFIH Excellence grant. The aim of the application is to provide a preparation opportunity for successful participation in programs of the European Research Council. Congratulations!

Yesterday, HUN-REN BRC was represented by Viktor Honti, Erika Gábor, Gábor Csordás and Dóra Balogh of the Institute of Genetics, at the #ScienceExpo. The fruit fly, used as a humanized disease model, was presented to the audience in a live microscopic, interactive presentation.

On November 18, the annual Celebration of Hungarian Science was held at the headquarters of the Szeged Committee of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, where our institute was represented by Erika Gábor and Péter Vilmos with their presentations.
