I'd like first class support for Typesense (it's almost up there with Algolia).

Also chunking of large content. We use it to index large documents that can easily exceed Algolia's limits.

Basically I don't want to have a need for the scout-extended package.

Dell Optiplex 990 from Goodwill. I paid $8 for mine + another <$50 in upgrades.

Frankly I can just get the full bundle of the cheap model for $100. The waterproof case is very useful since I freedive/snorkel a lot.

No, wait. They actually list the specs.

Regular -> PRO
8MP f/1.8 -> 16MP f/2.2
1/3.2" sensor -> 1/3.06"

So a bit of a wash. It's mostly about double the pixels.

With more pixels, I would hope the image quality is a tad better. No word about sensor size and lens, so I'm assuming they're the same.
September 12, 2025 at 7:47 PM
Ah so you're saying I should get the PRO? 😁
Tbh I'm also tempted by the "crappy" quality and the scrappiness of the base model.

I see they have a CS-PRO for pre-order for just a few extra bucks. I wonder if that might be an even better deal.

Wow what the eff... I'm getting strong fomo vibes... gotta have this
September 12, 2025 at 4:42 AM
Yep, except for its annoying propensity to please. Just be aware that it can sneak in bad info if you don't pay attention.

Yeah that's a big problem. I have non developers making AI PRs now, and I have to spend 2x the time trying to make sense of it and ensure no weird bugs are introduced.

As for junior devs trained with AI, no thanks. I'd rather just use the AI tool, cause I can coax it to an acceptable solution.
September 10, 2025 at 3:56 PM
I think that experienced dev with AI tool > experienced dev without it. The problem is that every new dev entering the market nowadays is learning with AI, and they are useless without it. Worse, they won't know how to vet AI solutions properly, leading to increased amounts of slop.

The tools are useful. What we hate is the overblown hype and the techbros peddling it, pretending it's the 2nd coming of Christ. Make no mistake, their end goal is to replace all humans with machines, and we are gleefully embracing our demise by echoing the hype.

Nice! Congrats!
