There was a big effort recently to shut down criticisms of Israel using language policing tactics and basically everyone on the left could see the problem.

And conversely, people didn’t just spontaneously start saying “Latinx” or “BIPOC” — there was a view that it would be better collectively to star using these terms and a genuine question of whether that makes communication easier or harder.
