I'm late, but regarding at least the first study, maybe some Dones self report as further left-leaning because they grew up around so many right-leaning religious people. If they are from heavily Christian areas maybe they see their beliefs as more extreme because there are fewer who share them

There's something about the flat midres textures on blocky polygons that feels almost ethereal or uncanny valley. Especially in cramped rooms or with really nice skyboxes.
