Before ‘cut & paste’ and Tipp-Ex, scribes found novel ways to correct their mistakes and omissions. Here a scribe points to the place where the omitted line (bottom of the page) is meant to go - 1300, leaf from a Book of Hours, Walters Art Museum, W.103. 33v

In my gallivanting around Nebraska, I was fortunate to come across a museum display dedicated to Plectron. Pioneers in tone alerting systems, their two-way radios have alerted many first responders and saved many lives before 911 was a thing. They also had a hand in developing modern AEDs.

so i'm incapable of learning anything without a bit of fucking around and finding out, which is why i tested out the different wheel throwing techniques i've come across, learning why people do it and what works for me. #noobpottery

behold! the biggest #terrarium i've built so far! 😅 using sifted recycled aroid soil mix as the drainage layer and the empty shell of an African Giant snail scooped from the sidewalks, i saved my struggling pennywort and fittonia. at least i hope so.

It's longsword term at the local #HEMA school! The first technique covered is Nachreisen, meaning Chasing, or Running After. Very useful for punishing fighters who swing their sword wildly by costing them their head. Photo of original manuscript from Wiktenauer, translation by Jeffrey Forgeng.

here's my photos of Fremantle prison from a little while back. Australia's only World Heritage site is the largest convict-built building and housed prisoners from 1854 to 1991. Inmates were allowed to paint in their cells when officers noticed that it made them less violent.

Exposition Coloniale was a huge art event in Paris, 1931. "Asian" landmarks were replicated with intention to nationalise France's colonial empire, like Cambodia's Angkor Wat and the temples of Laos and China. The replicas were inaccurate, as they were based on European stereotypes of Asia.

i had the privilege to preview the National gallery of Singapore's upcoming exhibition: City of Others, a detailed account about Asian artists in Paris. It was nice to see works and memorabilia from familiar names like Georgette Chen, Foujito Tsuguharu, Xu Beihong, Liu Kang and more.
