Some dude that bikes for groceries most days
There’s no waiting list at the new Beer Cave™ at my local convenience store though, Ford knows how to get things done😭

Genuine question: Toronto streets could look like this. As an admitted cyclist, why would you want the status quo?

There’s a classic meme for this

Lately I’ve been using the internet just to be crusty and reinforce my own internal crustiness - but I took a 6 minute bike downtown to get groceries and forgot the world is still here! There’s people and sun and happy kids and fancy art students with coffee… no negativity in sight.

Makes you wonder if the planner and engineer demographic has an even lower percentage of cyclists than the general population. This happens all the time and isn’t just an oversight…

Here’s one of my favourites in KW:

I decided to go for my favourite doughnuts in town this morning. It turns out that the bike lane doesn't exist on Sundays. Do wrongful death lawsuits apply to Sundays? The Cambridge Master Cycling plan uses the word "safe" 70 times! (but doesn't mean it)

Fact: an Ontario municipality and their engineers actually approved and built this in 2025, on a busy road with heavy high-schooler foot traffic and high vehicle speeds.

I didn’t know that simple bollards, paint, and signals were more expensive than eventual wrongful death lawsuits.

Cambridge is pretty far along that awful spectrum of stopping all investment in public amenities, but it's eternally shameful that the best new public space in town in 50+ years isn't even public. What do these people think a city is, if not sometimes noisy and chaotic (and fun)?

Been going very strong with this in every store in Canada for months now. Fuck these ghouls.

A man in a lifted truck deliberately sped between a crossing teen and I this morning. This same intersection saw a truck hit 4 people in 2024. A woman crossing died months later.

No physical changes have been made since. @cambridge.ca @regionofwaterloo.bsky.social @thebikinglawyer.bsky.social

Does anyone else’s local council spend all day talking about parking and keeping taxes low, but never once talks about why buildings like this don’t get made anymore?

Weird how those housing crises keep happening… @wryimby.bsky.social

I tried to walk to get a sandwich today - buy local, of course! Turns out that @cityofcambridge.bsky.social thinks it’s better to use American gas to support local than it is to simply walk there in safety. It didn’t feel nice to be passed by transport trucks 2ft away.

Just got back from Minnesota and it was odd

If there’s any young people reading this, here’s what your elders think about giving you the same opportunity (housing) that they had at a public meeting about a project:

My neighbours: “we spent all that money and nobody uses those damn bike lanes!”

The bike lanes:

Is the Region of Waterloo on Bluesky yet? Somebody tell them that their Yield signs aren’t reflective enough to avoid being hit! Safety is a shared responsibility and everyone out there, signs included, has to pull their weight.

I’ve shared this pic a million times but it’s possible to make a mostly-pedestrianized area also work with light bus traffic, as seen personally in Denver:

Look at those Kitchener weirdos off in the distance, a bunch of wee tiny pixels
November 28, 2024 at 3:22 PM
why did they put in those bike lanes and punish all these poor 401 drivers 😭

In 2005, teenage me took this photo on a grey day with a disposable camera - in the most nondescript field you could find in Normandy. 2000 Canadians lie there.

Today, we have a responsibility to ensure that their names actually do live forever.

Currently trying to convince the dog to use a new trailer first…

I just wish that car advocates knew that they were stifling childhoods and making sterile neighbourhoods - which is clearly bad, even for us childless people ☹️

I can’t accept this kind of police state

Photo 1: Dec 2023, I asked the city why this pedestrian island has no bollards because it was just run over by a car. And a school is nearby.

In photo #2, taken today, they have added a "Pedestrians Yield to Traffic" sign because safety is not #1 here.
