Ultimately, the question I pose is: Is Siyphus the patron saint of queers and trans folk? Or is there someone else that better represents us and our experiences?

Or, is this just a for now struggle? Will we see a dawn where we can just be queer or trans and just be? No more fear, no more worry, just be who we are?

So, I'm wondering, is this fight an integral part of the queer or trans experience? Are we kind of set up to constantly see our hard work fail, to have the boulder fall back down that hill after having had spent so much time and effort pushing it up? 6/

The start of the 21st century was looking better, kinder. But now, with the world swinging back towards darkness, things are getting bad again.

It's easy to see that, yeah, queer and trans folks pushed that bolder and now are seeing it go back down that hill. 5/

Queer and trans history has been a harsh one. Through most of the 20th century. Often hated and criminalized... Targeted by fascists and with rights that were gained through pain and suffering and years of hard fought battles. 5/

It also covers a few different population groups, like children and people of color.

They also call Sisyphus the Saint of Queers and Saint of Trans...

Which really makes me think... 4/

Some of these associations are interesting... like being the saint of lockdown, health, peace, truth and remembering... Which we can all attest have been feeling like uphill battles as of late... 3/

It's main association revolve around the idea of being once more at the bottom of the hill, wondering if they have the strength to push that boulder once more.

It also has a motif of associating Sisyphus as a patron saint for all people who have to constantly fight uphill battles. 2/

Anyway, if you're interested in watching the vid that got me thinking of this, here's the link:

Oh! Maybe the two wizard find friendship and both choose to end amicably! (And of course, Mora's daughter ends up winning the competition.)

Like, In this day and age, a message of peace and friendship and that video games are supposed to be fun would be a nice message to have.
June 5, 2025 at 7:07 PM
So he sets out to find another video game Wizard? Maybe finding Wendy to help out (for old times sake) and they two build up this new wizard to beat Lucas (or Lucas' own prodigy?)
June 5, 2025 at 7:07 PM
Lucas seeks to rekindle past glories he had as a video game "wizard". He decides to fund an old school tournament and tries to get Jimmy to compete so he can finally beat him. Jimmy is uninterested (he was only seeking closure after all) but Corey... maybe he needs the money?

And you'd need something that ties the story together... like bringing elements of the original to so that it makes sense as a sequel. So maybe something like...

Another big thing is that these days, competitions are found in e-sports matches, not so much in national competitions. So would that be something we would want to see?
June 5, 2025 at 7:07 PM
Like, we have a host of competitive games to play but the movie chose a different route. The final challenge in the movie is Super Mario 3 where the kids are trying to get the highest score. So they aren't directly competing against each other. Would we a more direct final fight?
June 5, 2025 at 7:07 PM
Like, the core theme of this movie is this journey the kids take on, not the games themselves (So thankful for that nice ending!)

The real world and video games (industry) have changed a lot in the past 35 years. How would a heroes journey about a kid who's good at video games play out now?

No direct experience but we won’t be going to the US for the foreseeable future. We had plans to visit New York this summer (going full tourist) that we canceled. For sure the direct threat from ICE is part of it but the worst is from the current president and administration.

I like the point that typos are inherently a human thing to do... which I will gladly continue to do in all my future writings.

And the best part is that, as far as we know, it’s also factually true!

Say it out loud while putting emphasis on the word sound. I think you’ll find it a strange and intriguing prospect. One that punches you with this idea of universe far different than what we know today.
