The future of bidirectional data sharing between #EMS & hospitals will be in the expanded use of TEFCA & QHINs & improved interoperability measures with incentives vs penalties from CMS Accrediting Organizations.

@maiadorsett.bsky.social, I’d love your feedback and opinion on this one!

It should be simple. #EMS shares data w/hospitals & hospitals SHOULD share data back with #EMS.

Read the NEMSAC Advisory (in Interim status, open for public comment now) on this topic & how FICEMS can break down these silos.

NREMT is thinking outside the box for continued competency and CE hours. #EMS is engaged in professional development & growth & deserves credit for the work put in.

Not endorsements or recommendations yet, but a sign of what might be coming.

Indiana conducted a survey and produced a landmark report that was accessible to the public to unveil many of the gaps in #EMS care. This caused many of the local commissioners and regulators to take a deep look at their community.

You should know your local legislators who are particularly well versed in #EMS, maybe due to their own background or experience. Also reach out to representatives from the underserved areas who probably don’t even know the lack of available #EMS services.

How can you mandate that a volunteer fire department provide #EMS services when they are having a bake sale to afford diesel for the truck? Will the “essential” designation provide that necessary funding?

Bring your stakeholders to the table to hash all these out.

Which entity regulates the “essential” #EMS designation? State, county, local municipality? Standards for service provision must account for resource availability. What about the massive ambulance deserts? Will “essential” designation narrow these?

What are the staffing mandates? Where do the “teeth” come from to enforce the essential service mandate? How do you make sure care is equitable in urban vs rural areas?

If we can fund law enforcement and fire suppression, we can find a way to fund #EMS.

You trust that a police officer will come if you’re being robbed, a firefighter will come when your house is on fire, but what about an ambulance for a medical emergency?

Who will be accountable for making sure the service exists? Where will the funding come from?

I did record it for internal CE use, but it’s not high quality, IMO. Just recorded in a classroom setting. I’m doing a 90-min presentation on the topic at a state conference later this spring and was planning to record it more formally.
