Obviously, but Rutte's job is not to call out the US. But to keep NATO together.

I see the work to dispose of Witkoff continues. Good.

Disagree, Europe did not get a 100% score. But still a solid 70%. Ukraine got the money and the assets remain frozen until reparations. In the end this strengthens both Europe and Ukraine's strategic position.

It was not an article but a series of messages on his Blue Sky: bsky.app/profile/maxb.... He should turn it into an article though imo
The EU never gets praise even when it acts. There is so much constant EU negging that commentators struggle to praise when it delivers. The EU did what it needed to do. Take the win.

Last night was a big step for Ukraine and the European project.

First, the EU got the money for Ukraine 1/

Max Bergmann from CSIS has some interesting things to say about what was agreed yesterday. And that runs straight against the conclusions in this article.

Niet verassend.

It's not the perfect outcome, but not a bad outcome either. This agreement does three things: 1) provide Ukraine with financial support, 2) freeze assets indefinitely unless Russia agrees to reparations and 3) make financing Ukraine part of the regular EU budget (harder to veto). Score: 2 out of 3.

And Zelensky responded with offering elections. For which Russia would need to agree to a ceasefire first and foremost. Good move. Neither Putin nor Trump can crawl back now without looking weak.

So pretending Biden is still in charge and claiming the government (Trump himself leads) is woke? Yeah, sounds like a good strategy…

And in the end he complies. As he always does.

These people? Mentally ill.

Yeah, that's pretty much my own assessment. This NSS is out of line with actual reality and seems to be mostly aimed at a domestic audience.

Witkoff is finished.

Vrede? Laat me niet lachen. De oorlog gaat gewoon door. Makkelijk nog een jaar.

I read this as: talks were difficult initially but now we have a joint position and we are rewriting the plan.

Selling aid to Russia would be political suicide, even for Trump. It would also blow up NATO and collapse America's influence in Europe and Asia overnight.
