About to watch Wicked with my family, and the entire screening audience makes me feel like this… there’s too many kids.

Hey #PhotoSky!

I hope you all have a very happy Turkey Day with either your family, loved ones, or friends.

Happy Thanksgiving.

The shortlink on there sure, it does take you off site.

But this is all you need to do.

This reminds me of this iconic shot in Carol Reed’s The Third Man (1949).

Great work Daniel.

Here are some additional images for you as well from the same day.

I will note that these images were taken (by me) for a private organization, not the NPS.

One I'm passionate about is wildfire prevention. One of the best methods of mitigating the impacts of wildland fire is by doing something called "Timber Stand Improvement".

This effectively boils down to selectively chainsawing old trees and putting them in large piles to burn during the winter.

Gm #PhotoSky.

My favorite days as a seasonal ranger are project days, when I can follow random park staff around and document them working in the field.

This is an interp ranger at Mesa Verde giving a tour of a cliff dwelling to the public.

If you end up checking out anything I mentioned, I’d love to know your thoughts on them.

If you’d also like a great film recommendation that’s in theaters right now? Anora.

(Anora does contain nudity)

And for a great recent streaming film? Look Back

(Prime Video and only 57 minutes)

For starters, here are four very different films that I’d recommend from a cinematography standpoint. They also are great films in general.

The Night of the Hunter (1955)

Portrait of a Lady on Fire (2019) [Note: there is some nudity in the film]

Chungking Express (1994)

Children of Men (2006)

I’m not alone!!!

I’m not a crazy person I guess. Lmao.

Sorry, but I’m just not interested in having my images “purchased digitally”.

You are more than welcome to order a print of one of my photos.

But, I don’t want them “showcased in an exhibition” and probably labeled as if you took them. That’s art theft.

What are your thoughts?

I love texture photos like this so much.

Here’s the closest I’ve gotten to this kind of image in the realm of frozen ice texture. This one is from a frozen waterfall.

I always enjoy these kinds of more intimate detail/texture photos. They provide a sense of calming to them, like yours Scott.

I don’t specialize in it, but I enjoy being able to fill the entire frame with it whenever I see an opportunity to do so.

Here are some of my favorites taken in that style.

Good morning #PhotoSky.

Thanks for everyone who supported my thread last night about Geotagging. Please check it out if you hadn’t read it yet 😊

And my panorama image that I shot handheld during a random hike of mine 😅

As for Zion? That’s a park that has gone far past its population limit. Angels Landing is a major issue and needed that permit system earlier. The Narrows also needs a permit system.

But there aren’t a lot of other trails to redirect people (and wildlife) on where else to go. It’s quite sad really.
November 18, 2024 at 2:43 PM
Yeah. Both parks have their challenges.

Acadia I think is much less of an issue in comparison, as it tries to encourage people to spread out rather than act like a funnel. The lighthouse being a major exception. It wasn’t made for heavy traffic. And it’s in an area that’s hard to develop further.

Here’s a photo of me working at Mesa verde btw, just for fun I guess.

Not a great photo, but at least it’s something.

Dm this person who runs that content scraping blocklist and see if you can get them added.

I forgot to mention it way earlier, but I would love to know your own thoughts on the concept of geotagging and the wider effects that it can have on places near you.

Do you agree with me? Do you disagree?

Has a place you love become overrun by tourists?

I’d love to know your thoughts.
November 18, 2024 at 1:51 PM
With all that said, I ask you to please go out and explore and photograph these special places, but also help protect them from being “loved to death” by not geotagging. (6/6)

My recommendation is to please do mention or geotag the state/country you took the photo, especially if it’s a populated area then mention the nearby town.

But please don’t geotag the exact trail name of where you took the image, like an Angels Landing or The Narrows; Both are overpopulated. (5/6)
November 18, 2024 at 2:34 AM
At this point, places like the three previously mentioned are fine to geotag.

As for that beautiful hiking trail with a waterfall at the end that no one visits, or the cliff dwelling you found in a random canyon with no one around?

Those are the kind of sites that I want to try to protect. (4/6)
