One survey respondent from New York reported losing $124 the first time their benefits were stolen and then $275 on a second round. Another New Yorker said they visited a local food pantry after also having their benefits stolen twice.

In the only interview he's ever given, the cellmate of Messiah Nantwi — the 22-year old allegedly beaten to death by officers at Midstate Correctional Facility — spoke to @chrisgelardi.bsky.social about witnessing the experience. This quote has stuck with me.
