Have they considered giving out free foam hats as well?

It is a bit surreal to be on a train in NJ and watch a waterspout head for my house.

It has been interesting to see private equity manage to achieve the same returns as the SP500 but with higher fees. To pull this off they need to sell existing funds to new investors. If they have their way, soon you can invest in private equity just like a regular mutual fund!

"Construction workers should be locals that get $50 an hour, everything needs to be of the highest quality, everything needs to be beautiful, and it all needs to be like $100,000 for a new house" - every time new construction is discussed in my town

Especially since the faculty at my graduate institution were so hidebound and inward facing, whereas I am now a forward thinker who nonetheless tempers his insights with a sensible pragmatism.

<ahem> ...
BuT tHe HOMELESS!

It always amazes me when I am in line at SJC and see someone with a bike helmet. I feel like I should congratulate them for surviving the ride.

A million years ago one of the guys on CarTalk suggested that every car needs a sign on the roof that says "sorry!" when the driver pushes a button.

I rode by there today.

At least for me, those norms were enforced with violence. You did not fit in? You got beat.

The other funnypie trivia is that the canonical dessert pies often only have a pastry bottom, with an exposed top. Pecan pie has a layer of pecans on top (a pecan is a nut native to North America and the word comes a word that kind of translates as nut.) Pumpkin is an exposed custard.

You get only one guess as to what that guy's name is

Mine took almost 7 and my wife's took 9, and she was never a TA....

Claws would have worked better.....

For the US, you are asking for a better funded social security program? My pension (oddly enough I have one currently) is still taking money and shoving it into the market so that it can pay people who retired 15 years ago twice my salary....

Banks are bad, actually.... You should ask your neighbor before allowing him to borrow your money to buy a house or a car.
October 20, 2025 at 6:33 PM
Wouldn't this apply to all funds? I mean if I decide "I is smart!" and put my savings in a bunch of ETFs or, god help me, mutual funds, I am making the same immoral decision? Doubly so for relying on my pension?
October 20, 2025 at 6:32 PM
A pension is the same thing, except they do the investing on your behalf. A prime funder of modern private equity are pension funds!

I spend too much time on nextdoor, and the only thing that gets more people angry than e-bikes are pedestrians....

I would also love it if the laws were enforced when drivers did stupid stuff. I see people run red lights and stop signs every day on my way to work but no one gives a crap, instead they rant about bicyclists.

I would also think that local journalist, at least TV ones, are driven by their audience, who are mostly older, conservative, and hate change.

Unfortunately yes.
