Professor, with a focus on the rhizomatic interactions of early Judæo-Christian sects and texts with the Græco-Roman lifeworld: unapologetically interdisciplinary; latest book: Deleuze, Guattari and the Machine in Early Christianity (Bloomsbury 2022).
Very grateful to Cooper and Taylor — and the Machinic Unconscious Happy Hour — for their interest in my book on Deleuze, Guattari and early Christianities. Here is the link to the podcast.

The naturalism/realism of these frescos seems to be more reminiscent of 18th century European art than late the Antique or early Medieval periods. As you say, so very striking. And what’s more, connected to a well-known historical person.
Some of the garden frescoes from the dining room in the luxurious Roman villa which once belonged to the empress Livia, over 2000 years ago. Absolute perfection, in my eyes.

Perhaps it's time to take my first plunge into Bluesky and, since the contributions of women are often overlooked by historians, I'll begin with a commemoration of Princess Marie Bonapart, who died on this day in 1962. In 1938, she facilitated Freud's escape from the Gestapo and exile to London.
