There’s a long list of books that inspired me to write fantasy. Here are a few at the top of the list.
The Crystal Cave — Mary Stewart Arthurian legend from Merlin’s perspective. One of the first fantasy books I fell in love with as a child. The Last Wish — Andrzej Sapkowski I didn’t read The Witcher books until I was an adult, but the humor and magic within them reignited my desire to write. The Lord of the Rings — J.R.R Tolkien This one’s pretty obvious, right? The Hobbit gets an honorable mention here as one of the first novels I ever read. A Wizard of Earthsea — Ursula K. Le Guin This book is an underrated classic in the fantasy canon. Everyone should read it.
