Early alerts are basically our only defenses against tornadoes. It is sad to think that for the first time in 50 years we may be backsliding to a time when tornadoes strike without warning.

Last year on the anniversary of the 74 super outbreak, I attended a lecture by Greg Forbes in which he described how that tragedy spurred massive improvements in alert times.
