Barcenas, Ascanio, Wesley were all on the team for the entire 2024 season. Barcenas played in 2023 as well.

Rough game or rough season? 😏

She was helped off the field and to the locker room at the end of the Portland playoff game. No idea what the injury was though.

He was asked why he wanted to join, not what the board will do. Not really understanding the criticism of his answer.

Definitely outside the box. VAR in this league is a joke.

That’s all fair, for sure! I see a team with the most growth potential (other than maybe WAS if they get healthy) given how new it all still is - overhauled roster, new style, youth with massive upside. To be where there are in just 7 games is eye opening. And we haven’t seen Trinity Byers yet.

Interesting stats on Wave. Eye test says when you hit the bar, two posts, and have a PK saved, you were very unlucky. And when you find a way to win in spite of all that, you’re a very good team. My 2 cents, anyway…

Maybe worth noting that the 3-1 home win (2024) was actually played in Louisville - the season finale that had to be moved from Snapdragon due to poor field conditions!

💯. There’s so many things they could do better. For preseason momentum: all teams should formally announce NRIs. And stream Coachella on NWSL+ - that thing they built for the specific purpose of…streaming games. It’s very frustrating.
March 26, 2025 at 8:46 PM
Question - why not stream these games on the NWSL app? Why were games available to some teams’ fan bases (for example, Houston), but not others (for example, San Diego)?

We’re in this position b/c we trade almost every prospect. A better idea is to actually develop more controllable players. There has to be a balance. You know who would look great in LF right now? James Wood! Imagine where we’d be now if we’d traded Merrill too.

San Diego paper is reporting she requested the trade at the beginning of last season - before the multiple coaches and front office allegations.
January 12, 2025 at 8:45 AM
Perhaps. Though she barely played for the last 2 coaches (injured), and that’s fixed now with the person responsible for the coaching and front office circus (Ellis) gone. At this point I think what’s best for her development is likely her top priority.

Easy to assume the dysfunction led to this, and it may have, but is it wrong to think the decision to sign McCaskill rather than making Shaw the clear 10 played a big role? It seemed a curious decision at the time, and never worked on the field.

I think I’m on the “tell me how much a 3-yr contract with each would cost before I decide who I want back” train…

Sure the media liked the spending - it gave them lots to write about. Not hard though to find interviews where Seidler referenced frustration with constantly being asked about sustainability. Also not hard to find podcasts where the national writers were debating how sustainable it was.
December 29, 2024 at 2:16 AM
There were reports they weren’t in compliance with MLB’s debt ratio rules and that MLB had ordered them back into compliance. So…they were spending beyond their means, which, short of seeing the books, is the best evidence you’re gonna get that some teams do actually have spending limits.
December 28, 2024 at 4:57 PM
Yet you (the media) and the commissioner didn’t hesitate for a second to publicly question whether the Padres spending was sustainable when they did exactly what you are calling out here. The hypocrisy in this post is staggering.
December 28, 2024 at 1:21 AM
Lol, maybe take solace in it only being a one year deal and that you can dream again next offseason?
December 20, 2024 at 1:20 AM
Ability to see new posts in your timeline without being taken to the top/most recent post would be great. In other words, continue scrolling up through posts in chronological order from where you were when new posts appear in timeline…

There was a podcast with one of the insiders where they said there was basically zero chance PIT will consider trading Jones. And that was said within the context of guys with more than the year of control that Cease has. So wouldn’t get your hopes up on that (unfortunately)…
December 19, 2024 at 7:05 PM
Yes on King!! Having at least a couple years of King/Musgrove/Sasaki/Darvish while developing some young guys would make me very confident about our ability to contend every year for the foreseeable future.
December 7, 2024 at 10:01 PM
Not necessarily something you can control. If a team is trading someone and backfilling with a FA, they likely aren’t willing to sit around waiting and hoping the FA is still on the market in mid-Jan. Not saying it’s impossible, but not all teams will wait on a trade until Sasaki decides.
December 7, 2024 at 9:54 PM
I’m ok with trading Cease. Too much inconsistency for my tastes, and I don’t think his (primarily) 2 pitch mix is ever going be very effective against LA in the postseason. Find a couple guys Niebla can develop and I think we’d be alright (gotta get Sasaki though).
December 7, 2024 at 9:46 PM
Can’t trade them. You have legit holes at SS/C with solutions that provide superstar upside and cost control (allows other things like King/Merrill ext) on the horizon. It’s the only way to stay competitive as the expensive contracts age. Sign Sasaki & spend a little in the interim and we’re good!
