This feels reminiscent of the opportunity the US had in the early 1900s to pick up the best scientific minds when forced out of Europe. That set the foundation for today’s entrenched technological lead. Will another country finally have its chance to do the same?

There was some discussion about how ChatGPT etc would affect online social media content a while back on the old place. This was the first time I’ve seen the ideas in that discussion materialize in the wild. Social content without a personal scarcity to it is repulsive to users.

I think fighting against a tsunami isn't a good use of effort because tsunamis won't stop advancing. I think trying to guide that tsunami so it does minimum damage is a better strategy. For example the writers/actors strike a while back wanted safeguards against use of actors' likeness. 1/

I tried your prompt in the latest ChatGPT model, o1, and it gets it correct. Were you using an older model?

I speculated about this on the old site. I think there will both be a reallocation to higher value tasks but also a reduction in the number of grad students overall.

But that seems completely orthogonal to whether there are more doctors or not. If that’s the issue then they should have been striking way back, not when there is a proposal for more doctors. I think this is a classic barriers to entry problem similar to the US. 4/

Well it seems that the president has issued a proposal to increase the number of medical students being trained in the country. This was initially met with an increase in approval rating but then the doctors went on strike and have been striking for months leading to inability… 2/

It’s beginning to seem like electing the Don is the US’s Brexit moment. After he comes into office and enacts all the tariffs we’ll hear a sea of stories about ppl who voted for him and thought “doesn’t the other country pay tariffs?” Can’t wait to post this meme.

A classic: self-serving politician does not understand the system but wants to abuse power to implement self-serving goal without realizing they are shooting themselves and everyone else in the foot.

We need to brainwash ppl in schools so they know more lanes does not reduce traffic.
