#smallgamestudio I'm debating how I want to do the art for the game. By Monday I'll have everything done coding wise (hopefully) so mechanically speaking the game will function. It's just everything will be blocks, so Idk if I want to try pixel art, hand drawing, or just keeping it kind of blocky.

#smallgamestudio Gonna make some back to back posts tonight to show off my game. Did some work with NavMeshSurfaces so that my enemies didn't walk through walls to try and get to the player, while at the same time they walk through traps and die to said traps.

#smallgamestudio Been a bit since I've posted stuff (busy with personal stuff) but I've made a lot of progress on my game. Just got a few more scripts to make that I'll finish on Monday and then all I'll need left is the art... oh and the music from 176. Here's how many scripts I have rn.

#smallgamestudio After playing through most of the games for project 3, much like project 2, I was surprised by the sheer variety of the games. With the limitations we had I kind of figured everyone would end up with something kind of similar but it really shows what you can do with simple shapes.

#smallgamestudio New game "Gray Scale Jumper" just got uploaded. Try out platforming while changing the gray scale of your cube and see why it's needed in order to beat the game.

#smallgamestudio Finished with my project 3 recently. One thing that surprised me is how little coding I did for the game. The image I put with this post is probably 80% of coding, it controls all the major aspects of the game. The other scripts are small ones for getting platforms to move mostly.

#smallgamestudio The final game I'll post about for arcade 3 is "freedom bridge". The ending when you get to the bridge surprised me, I really wasn't expecting it. A small detail I noticed was that the blood will pool up if you stand still as you see in the image. Kind of dark but a nice detail.

#smallgamestudio Another one of the games I tried for Arcade 3 was called "Artist". It was a very interesting game, I honestly still don't know what all the keys do but I ended up with this nice image that looks like a sunset to me. I also found the auto art key and got the second image.

#smallgamestudio One of the games I tried for Arcade 3 was "Space Between Worlds". The game felt simple but was interesting how the titles hinted at how you were meant to move the cube. The way the colors also smoothly transitioned made me want to see if I could do something like that in my games.

#smallgamestudio I recently finished trying all the games from project 2 (at least the ones that had links in the spreadsheet). I'm very surprised by how much variety all the games had considering the requirement was just a text-based game. Some people even still made it a 3D game.

#smallgamestudio Just finished Project 2, although I still need to upload it to itch.io. While I'm happy with it, I feel like I stretched the idea of what a text based game is a bit. To me its one of those moments when the art student does a good job (I hope), but didn't follow the prompt.

#smallgamestudio I don't have an image but I'm so glad project 2 is due later than normal. I kind of restarted my project due to different ideas and just figuring out how I want to make the game in general, so more time really helps.

#smallgamestudio A few of images of games I played for our Arcade 2. I think the one that stood out to me in particular was AI Dungeon, felt like I was playing D&D by myself with the AI as DM. Which I actually play D&D every Sunday so I have an okay amount of experience.

#smallgamestudio Forgot to post some stuff so you'll see some images from a few days ago case in point this one is from Thursday. But having two monitors for Unity and scripting stuff is really nice for organization. (Also don't mind the dust and how dirty my set up is, I'm lazy)

#smallgamestudio While we haven't gotten too far into Project 2 yet, I was wondering if some people had experience with coding already. I took a class last summer (forgot the name of it) that taught some basic programing for Python so hopefully the helps me somewhat in this next project.

#smallgamestudio Doing my Pecha Kucha tomorrow on the creator of Stardew Valley, Eric Barone. I'm normally pretty confident when it comes to presentations, I'd like to think I do well in just winging it and showing off stuff. Though I'm nervous this time due to being on a set 20 seconds per slide.

#smallgamestudio One final screenshot of project one. Almost had a heart attack at one point working on this. I restarted my PC and reopened the project and I saw nothing there, I thought I lost everything. Luckily I found out it just opened a new scene for some reason so I was able to fix it.

#smallgamestudio Current preview of my project 1, the level it's self is pretty small but I'm happy with the narrative of it that I have in my head. Hopefully when we play test the games others will like the idea.

#SmallGameStudio Of the games we tried out, the one that stood out to me the most was Titanic 2. The game reminded me of Subnautic, specifically when navigating the dark and scary parts of the ocean. Also heres just some images of some of the other games I tried. (Sorry for the bad photos)

#SmallGameStudio Since project 0 is pretty simple I thought I might ask, what color are you all using for play mode on Unity? I'm currently using green, not too bright but not too dark either imo.
April 7, 2024 at 1:12 AM
#SmallGameStudio I basically never post things on social media so I'm gonna be figuring this out, but for now here's an image of my Project 0. Kept it simple with some ramps, put some cylinders under the platform to make it seem as though it's being held up and not floating.
