I come from physics and scipp.ucsc.edu/~haber/ph116... are rather elementary lecture notes for me, but I see they require a lot of knowledge about the notation and mathematical techniques which are likely not taught elsewhere. So, what is your end goal?

If not much, maybe archive.org/details/GDC2... (there's a PDF and a recording of the lecture) is the right resource.

The problem is to understand where the math is coming from one needs quite a lot of background. So it all depends on how much beyond the heurestic `it's like Fourier decomposition but for sphere' you want to go.

all right, I'm commuting rn but will search for something appropriate later today (unless you get a good recommendation from someone else)

Do you want to learn the theory or just have the functions implemented in some language?

Swinging definitely felt the best in the kids room, the strings provide a lot of attachment points and are not obstructive.

Do you have a link for the design or is it your own? Some time ago I thought about designing something similar to build tesselated 3D sculptures but it's harder than I thought.

thanks for this! recently I tried to understand the geometry behind the Einstein rings but everything I could find online was not terribly convincing (the Wikipedia page, for instance, assumes two incompatible approximations). Your explanation is the most comprehensible :)

What is the process after the writing is done? I could imagine it might be simpler in the era of print-on-demand and ebooks but maybe the publishers did in fact provide some utility…

thank you for the nice analysis :)

I would intuitively assume that there would be less redshift as measured by a falling astronaut, but the curve steepens and eventually overtakes the one for the spaceship. Why is it so?
