Part of the reason they stopped trying to elevate him, and some of the fracturing of the base, is due to Candace Owens coming out and saying he was "assassinated" by Israel. It didn't help that Erica Kirk took up the mantle of TPUSA CEO before his body was cold.

I imagine the conversation was more like "if you don't send that back to us, we're going to start leveling city blocks." Which is a little less satirical, but still pretty absurd.

I heard a "This American Life" episode from a year or two ago, that pretty uncritically treated this as the main premise of the episode (complete with Microsoft engineers that seemed to truly believe it), and it was my final straw in concluding that legacy news media is unsalvageable.

Like yeah, you could potentially breed humans to be immune to certain diseases, and all it would take is a horrifyingly dystopian, violently enforced, global human breeding program that would be orders of magnitudes worse for everyone's quality of life than just doing modern medicine.

For sure, I think I originally compiled it on a whim, and immediately went and bought it on Steam because it was so good.
