An honour to address @tuc.org.uk.

I've learned so much from my community, it shaped me. The values that underpin our movement motivate me every day.

It's time we unite, put them into practice and build a modern Britain that works for working people.
We promised a standards revolution in our colleges and that's what we'll deliver with targeted support where it's needed most and best practice spread across settings.

Labour is creating opportunity for our young people and driving growth for our country.

Honoured to join the Houghton parade on Remembrance Sunday.

Today we remember all who served and sacrificed for our freedom.

We will remember them.

Knocking on doors in Hetton today with the Labour team.

Great to hear the pride people have in our community and the determination to keep making a difference.

Proud of the wide support the Curriculum and Assessment Review has attracted from across the educational spectrum.

Labour wants to set up our children for tomorrow. The work of @beckyfrancis.bsky.social and colleagues is an essential step forward in securing standards and opportunity.

What children learn at school should equip them for the modern world.

That's why Labour’s new curriculum will deliver strong foundations in reading, writing and maths — plus new skills like spotting fake news online and understanding money.

For every child across our country, this Curriculum and Assessment Review provides an invitation not just to share in our national story, but to write the next great chapter.

I want to pass on my sincere thanks to Professor Becky Francis and her expert panel.

I knew from opposition that Prof Francis was the person I wanted to revitalise & renew our curriculum.

She has been unflinching in her drive for high standards for all.

Our expert-led Curriculum and Assessment Review has concluded.

Its recommendations will support this Labour government to build a system where every child can achieve and thrive.

A renewed system, fit for the future.

When young people are offered excuses rather than opportunities, they disengage. And we know what happens next.

Labour will renew Britain, and the path to renewal runs through our schools.

Proud to talk with members about the change Labour is bringing and the story we need to tell.

The Tories’ legacy in education was ceilings made from dangerous concrete being held up by steel props. Fixing it will be Labour’s.

Children learning in safety, classrooms fit for purpose, every child shown that they matter.

The Tories left our schools to RAAC and ruin.

The next generation will inherit RAAC-free schools from Labour, with rebuilds done in under a decade and all other schools cleared of RAAC by the end of this Parliament.

That's national renewal.

The Tories want you to believe that to encourage young people to take up an apprenticeship, you have to kick universities.

You don’t.

You can invest more and boost further education without talking down young people’s aspirations to go to university. That’s Labour’s approach.

Congratulations to Lucy Powell on her win, wishing her the very best as deputy leader.

Disappointed to have lost, but proud of the campaign we ran. Thanks to everyone who backed me along the way, it's been a privilege to meet so many of you and I'm so grateful for your support.

Best Start is more than the adverts you'll see on TV, it's physical hubs in all of our communities – thanks to Labour.

From Derbyshire to Darlington, Staffordshire to Swindon, Labour is building back the family services the Tories devastated.

Polls close at midday, so I've been reflecting on my highlights of the campaign.

Bringing back maintenance grants, securing the next wave of free breakfast clubs, funding new Best Start Family Hubs, a day out with Gordon Brown, addressing TUC and meeting so many great members.
October 23, 2025 at 10:45 AM
Our Best Start free breakfast clubs have already served 2.5 million meals.

Now, Labour is backing them to go further – partnering with British businesses to make every penny count, so clubs can offer even more nutritious food and better activities.

Great to have the support of my friend and colleague Rachel Blake.

As your Deputy Leader, I will be side by side with you — putting your voice in the heart of government with a seat in Cabinet, and making you proud of our Labour government.

Ballots close 12 noon today.

Expanding free school meal eligibility and beginning the national rollout of free breakfast clubs.

Pro-learning, anti-poverty, properly Labour policies.

Back me to do more, as Labour’s Deputy Leader.

No one will shout about our successes if we don’t.

We can either talk about the need for change, or we can bring it into action.

As your Deputy Leader, I’ll shout about our successes, not dwell on our mistakes.

Ballots are open until 12pm tomorrow.
October 22, 2025 at 7:05 PM
Less than 24 hours to go until ballots close!

It’s been a privilege meeting with so many members in every nation and region, working hard to unite our party, shout about our successes and deliver Labour victories 🌹

Honoured to be in the Chamber for a brilliant statement by my friend, Angela Rayner.

She is and will remain an inspiration across our movement.

Make no mistake, change is on the ballot in this deputy leadership election - the question is what kind.

Members can choose to push our government to be bolder and go further with me as their voice in cabinet, or they can choose division and disunity that fuels our opponents.
