A timeless quip by my grandfather. One I’m proving yet again.

Two ears. One mouth.

A key piece of advice from my wife.
A career-slower for a software engineer:

Having tooo strong opinions about certain solutions without listening to others in the team.

If you can base your approach on facts, that’s great. But if it is only your gut feeling that is a different flavor of possibilities, rethink being soo strict.

> I think we have come to use “Senior Software Engineer” as shorthand for engineers who can ship code and be a net positive in terms of productivity, and I think that’s a huge mistake.

The visceral relief and professional vindication I feel when reading your work.

2/ Nobody comes out of the womb knowing how to build high end enterprise IT solutions. That takes training and experience. The tools that help orgs consistently provide those opportunities, to their full talent pool, are what I think of as DEI.

In its absence, your hunt for the “best” misses most.

I like this is well framed.
I think about this a lot. Each generations building basic blocks are the next generations abstracted away platform or “base” to build further upon.

Well. In one (linear) view of progress I guess..
It’s strange to think that between our parents growing up without household devices, and- skating to where the puck is going- levels of abstraction developing higher and higher, we might be in the only time period where it’s decently common to understand computers

Thoroughly inspired to rewild the internet.
Huge thank you to @mariafarrell.bsky.social for the talk and especially for gracefully accepting my awkward thank you afterwards!📈🌼 #WebDirections2024
