I’m being slightly hyperbolic here, but I think it’s about as common as being alcohol intolerant. Music was an essential part of life and if you managed to survive without understanding it, it was a weird happenstance and not the norm.

I agree we are more conditioning than people give credit for. But this removes morality from the system. We (humans) understand that someone with a gun to their head is not making a free choice, but saying that they are not making a choice in that situation is also wrong

I’m mostly kidding but, lately, I’ve been leaning towards the belief that the stupid microbes that make up our personal microbiome have way more influence on our moment to moment feelings than we can even conceptualize

I agree with your base belief that we do not have free will though. I just remember it is hard to prove, because the second you give a concrete explanation, you open yourself to concrete disproval.

@saekore.bsky.social has a point. It’s been years since I was reading Mind-Body philosophy, but once you allow the concept of “reacting based on the past” you are invoking free will. The act of calculating based on knowledge and then acting, is what free will entails.
