The myth that public sector finance is like managing a household budget goes back to Thatcher and even earlier…a nice little scare that it’s like not being able to pay the rent, and you end up on the street…

It’s also the main source for what we currently know about medieval military archery (so called warbows, though not a term anyone at the time would have recognised). And the research of the late actor Robert Hardy, based on the finds.

Not so sure about this - there are cat skeletons in pre-Roman Iron Age (pretty sure Danebury hill fort is an example - where the burials were deliberate). Might have come across intentionally or accidentally as party of trade, but do appear to be here well before the legions….

most would assume an image from the 50s, not the mid 70s. Very evocative

But many deliberately bent or broken items were deposited in places they wouldn’t be found (lakes, rivers, bogs etc…) so not sure that really explains it.

A phenomenon that continued through the Iron Age. Often wonder if there was a consistency and continuity of the meaning of this (and common association with watery places) or whether this held different meanings to people in different places and times….
