Great collaboration with the group of Colin Nuckolls where we investigate the special properties of #fluorescent dyads with energetically degenerate redox states. The paper is just out in @chemicalscience.rsc.org: DOI doi.org/10.1039/D5SC...

Just out in #ChemSci (doi.org/10.1039/D5SC00326A); new #fluorescence #probe switched by weak bases. The fluorescence lifetime directly reports on the concentration of e.g. glutamate and phosphates. We envision such probes as tools for studies of cellular buffer systems and metabolites.
Dynamic proton coupled electron transfer quenching as a sensing modality in fluorescent probes
Fluorescent off–on probes based on a modular design where an analyte sensitive PET moiety is attached to a fluorophore are extremely successful. Here we report a new modular fluorescence probe design ...

It's been a very sad day. Fraser will be dearly missed
Colleagues, Students, Postdocs, Collaborators and Friends of Sir Fraser Stoddart: I am writing with the sad news that Fraser passed away suddenly on 31 Dec (Australia time) while on holiday with family. No details yet on any services. He is irreplaceable.

Fluorescence Friday! New paper in Chemistry – A European Journal. We tune molecular orbitals of acridinium dyes by substitution with electron withdrawing groups to suppress PET quenching, turn on the #fluorescence and gain activity in #photocatalysis.

Packing hundreds of fluorescent molecules in nanoparticles can lead to super bright labels and probes. However, this requires solving the problem of aggregation caused quenching and understanding the photophysics of dyes in materials. See our perspective in Chem Sci.
