I think this might be the most snow she's ever seen.

When our insurance switched to CVS they sent me a letter saying that the dosage of a med I had been using for years was not appropriate and so they would not cover it.

Luckily it's not a terribly expensive medicine, so I threw away the letter and continued using GoodRx instead.

I handle the book sales for a large city library system. I promise that the proceeds from those sales support a lot of great programming and advocacy!

Our library buys popular new releases on a 3:1 ratio - 1 copy for every 3 holds placed. That demand tends to die down within a year or less, so for big new releases you will see discarded copies for sale through FOL or online partners within 6 months or so.

My rescue dog came very close to dying from Parvo and spent days in the hospital at considerable expense. I can't imagine choosing that over an inexpensive, extremely effective vaccine.

My daughter's 5th grade class performed 'The Raven' for their families in October. Afterward there was a little Q&A, so I asked if any of them had learned a new favorite word and was very pleasantly surprised when all 30ish kids said yes and told us their words.

Melancholy seemed to be the winner.

My 10yo daughter LOVES the teal album, so thank you!

Also, really enjoying the 80s renaissance that's apparently happening in Ohio middle schools. The same 10yo listens to Billy Joel obsessively and wears her dad's old Members Only jacket every day.

I once had a woman ask me very seriously whether "Abraham Lincoln, Vampire Hunter" was fiction or nonfiction.

You can enter your VIN into basically any major tire place's website and it will tell you exactly which size tires you need and show you all of the available options with prices and reviews.

Or you could just talk to the human who has probably changed the tires of 15 Honda Odysseys this week.

Where the Axe is Buried by Ray Nayler was one of my favorites from last year.

Teaching my kids to ignore the Google AI overview has left me with a whole folder of screenshots of obviously false information.

This was the one that really broke through, though. October 31, 2025 was a Friday.

My favorite find was this original 1924 edition of The Boxcar Children. I LOVED this series as a kid and I had no idea that this first release was a bust. Fewer than 1000 copies were printed, I believe. Warner shortened and simplified it for rerelease in 1942 and that one took off.

I am SO excited to have come across this post! I actually own the original astronomy textbook that the book is drawn on! I just ordered a copy. My 12yo is either going to think I'm the coolest or the lamest, but fingers crossed.

Ask every high-achieving, conscientious girl about the poorly behaved boys that she always seems to be sat with or partnered with or asked to help.

Will there be a US release? I will happily order from the UK, but wanted to double check. Can't wait to read it!

I'm lucky enough to get to work with old books often and love to read the inscriptions. This is forever my sentimental favorite.

I do this with my 11yo daughter every year for her birthday. Highly recommended!

I've worked in bookstores or libraries for most of my life. Out of the thousands of conversations I've had with people about books it has never been all that relevant whether one of us listened to it instead of reading it. It just doesn't matter. We got the same story and that's the important part.
