To your point though, as a person who can appreciate a soundtrack I can't think of any exceptional game with a bland soundtrack.

I can get behind that music contributes to creating atmosphere a ton, but if we're talking "memorable" I would argue most people don't appreciate the music as much as some others do. Game soundtracks are niche, even more niche than gaming in general.

I only found DOOM because of the music, genuinely. Without Mick I would have NEVER played DOOM, Wolf, PREY, Dishonored and many many others. It definitely helped me broaden my gaming spectrum at the right moment

if it's a narrative driven game or DOOM then good sound is mandatory. if it's something of a sandbox, then not really.

roblox comes to mind here. i think mc's music contributed only a small fraction. consider how many people turn *off* the music
