The level designer for the critically acclaimed Pikmin Hack; Puffmin Quest!
Pikmin Fanbase is pretty Chaotic Neutral nowadays (they used to be more chaotic before 4 was announced)

With the 10 year wait for Pikmin 4, plus the weirdness and even insanity of the games themselves...
Yeah, they're a little cooky sometimes.

Hot take but Pikmin 4's Jellyfloats are such a downgrade man...

Oddsparks is a cute Factory-Builder Pikmin-Like, I haven't tried it yet, but it looks really nice!

Is that Groink ok

I'm mostly just unreasonably annoyed at how flawed this Genre Name is in my eyes.
I do also feel like it undermines certain aspects of the Pikmin series, especially things the community doesn't really talk about. But that can be fixed through ways unrelated to this small problem.

With all that being said, do I hate the person that started this trend? Absolutely not! I think it was cool of them to try and finally solidify Pikmin within its own Genre, and it IS just a name, heck the "Rogue-Like" genre is literally named after a game, a name doesn't make the genre.

So yeah, I don't think Dandori-Like is a very fitting name for games that have a similar Style to the Pikmin series. I think we should rethink how we should name the Pikmin Genre and also take a look back at the Pikmin series overall, look at things we never really looked at before in detail.
November 22, 2024 at 11:30 PM
But there's no limit to how much time you can spend on a single playthrough, Pikmin 2 is NOT a Dandori-Like, and so are the other Pikmin-Style Indie Games that are emerging like #Tinykin and #OddSparks
November 22, 2024 at 11:30 PM
Not to mention that Dandori-Like ignores one of the games FROM THE SERIES IT ORIGINATES FROM

PIKMIN 2 is a game about diving into randomly generated caves that have zero time limits to collect treasure and battle enemies!
Sure, there is a limit to the amount of time you can spend on the surface-

What if you wanted to not care about the speedrunning aspects of Pikmin? What if you wanted to make a Pikmin Style game that features no day/sundown limits? What if you wanted to make a Pikmin Styled Rogue-Like?
November 22, 2024 at 11:30 PM
Speedrunning isn't the only aspect of Pikmin

Speedrunning IS an inherent mechanic in (most) of the Pikmin series, but there's still several other aspects like the combat, and ESPECIALLY how you control your army.

Even if Dandori was focusing on the speed aspect, there are still problems with Dandori-Like as the name for the genre.
First off, we already have a genre for that, it's called Speedrunning, we don't need to make two different Speedrunning genres.

But here's my MAIN problem with Dandori-Like...

I have a few problems with this.
First off, the vagueness of it all, Dandori's definition is very broad and non-descriptive, you can't really describe the entirety of Pikmin off of the word Dandori alone, the game is too complex for that.
November 22, 2024 at 11:30 PM
First off, let's try to explain what Dandori-Like means.

The word Dandori itself roughly translates to "strategically planning and carrying out tasks in the most efficient manner"

So "Dandori-Like" roughly translates to games that focus on being strategically quick and efficient.

I always enjoyed these basic waveforms in Pikmin 1, adds a certain vibe I can't describe.
