Pollinator perception: measuring predictor variables, values of reflectance spectra based on the stimulation of their photoreceptors. PC1 of the PCA of the stimulation data for all photoreceptors across the three flower parts according to each visual model. Brightness distance (BD) and color distances (CD) between flower parts. Pollination: phenotypic selection analyses combining different fitness variables, pollen grains deposited on the stigma or pollen tubes in the style attributed to pollination by either birds or bees, and predictor variables PC1, BD, and CD for each pollinator.

Prescribed ecological burn conducted at Como in southeastern Queensland, Australia. A seismometer is shown measuring the ambient resonance of a single-stem saguaro cactus in the Tucson Mountains, near Tucson, Arizona. The seismometer is a white box about 6" across, sitting on a mounting frame that is strapped to the cactus. Such data represent a new non-destructive technique for biomechanical characterization that can be applied in-situ on living cacti. Monitoring of resonance properties over time may also provide valuable information on changing properties and/or cactus weight.
