BSBI New Year Plant Hunt

Our dream team of Ambroise, Barry, Martin and myself searched through Saltburn on the 2nd of January. Despite the bitter wind we did find an amazing 63 species in flower our highest total yet. We are currently in the top 20 in the UK.

@ambroisebaker.bsky.social Have you any suggestions for this plant found by Wendy English growing in the Beaver enclosure. To me it looks like Bidens cernua. The sessile leaves seem to suggest that. No achenes though. What do you think? There are only three records in VC62 of B. cernua

@bsbibotany.bsky.social @teeswildlife.bsky.social Interesting find by James Harding-Morris in Coatham, Redcar of a plant which most people would just think is a “weed” Compact Dock Rumex thyrsiflorus This is only the second record in the whole of the UK It is a bit like Common Sorrel on steroids
