Historian mostly, bunch of degrees; sporty, ex-elite athlete; MTBer; geocacher. Not much of a follow-backer. My book: https://www.bloomsbury.com/us/rebuilding-britains-blitzed-cities-9781350168800/
p.s. bizarrely the New York Public Library has Dickens' writing desk (or at least one) plus the original Pooh and friends. I feel that's all a bit much - it should all be in the UK!

I confess to disliking Dickens entirely! (I make one exception > A Christmas Carol.) I prefer Trollope BY FAR!

I had to look up some stories, which are skewed at times to make it all mesh together, but it seems very creative. Only thing I don't like is how totally evil the evil people are (giving me the creeps big time!). Especially Great Expectations' Compeyson and Bleak House's Miss ("Frances") Barbary.

Where I grew up they flowered mostly from November?

What I cannot understand is why. WHY would someone educated like that actually turn around and destroy it all? Mental illness, or...??? Surely the profits are not better doing this than the real/good stuff? I cannot figure out the motive. But it must be there somewhere.

Shouldn't it say "MASA" as in Make America Sick Again ?!?!

Had not seen any of these - thanks!

The gun thing apparently will never go away. (I had hopes after several, espec Sandy Hook, but if that didn't do it nothing will. And the disgusting behaviour that came out of it made it all more obvious - a sick, sick society here.)

He really is evil personified. (And probably would like that description, scarier still!)

Rachel guested on a podcast & talked about some of this, but I really enjoyed this story (link starts in the right spot)... youtu.be/KP8BpMYCtng?...
(FWIW I think the video title is misleading, there is a TON more about Japanese incarceration & I have seen nothing yet about the headline stupidity!)

😳 oh my.

BTW re-watching Dickensian and wonder if you watched and what you thought of the whole mash-up thing...

Heavy sigh. I miss teaching but not all the b.s. there and here. FYI see DMs. :-)

This has been sitting open awaiting my reply. But the best thing is the reddit historians' answers about it! I can send a link 😍

He was never funny. And hooooo boy the stories that people who have encountered him can tell. UGH. Creepy a**hole.

Those are WOW! Just... WOW.

AI has given me two very wrong answers in the last little while, so I still don't trust it at all!

Agree about Schumer for sure.

Sigh, true the rest. Per the Guardian: "None of the Democratic senators who voted yes on Sunday’s procedural motion are up for re-election in 2026. Two of them... [Durbin & Shaheen] are retiring next year, while the earliest that any of the others would face a challenge would be in 2028."
November 10, 2025 at 8:14 PM
If that was true then Durbin would have voted for it. I doubt both NH senators are retiring for one!
