Puroresu wrestling fiend.
28 YEARS LATER is an absurdly gorgeous, incredible film from Danny Boyle. Instantly one of my favorites of 2025 and definitely rejuvenated the series. Has so much heart packed into the Alex Garland script.

FRANKENSTEIN is another Guillermo del Toro masterwork picture. I'm just heavy for that Mexican maestro, and partial to his films. Even with Netflix, this film looks gorgeous as hell and Jacob Elordi just stuns. He's absolutely stunning and brilliant. Oscar Isaac and Mia Goth do their thang.

THE SEVENTH CURSE is amazing. Never seen a film with such horror AND action aplenty like this, and it unequivocally rules. Another Maggie Cheung banger, adding to her astonishing resume to being the Greatest Actress ever. The effects are GNARLY for this one.

THE LOST BUS is a solid enough, entertaining enough feature. I would recommend watching Greengrass's film just for the directing because all that fire and the chaos it brought was very good. Ferrera and McConaughey do serviceable, fine jobs fit for their talents.

WEAPONS is another Zach Cregger banger. Much more enjoyable than his prior feature, Weapons has a thrilling, mysterious, dark energy about it with some really good performances. Gladys is a fucked up lady, lemme tell ya. Shoutout Donna's bust.

CAUGHT STEALING might just prove Darren Aronofsky isn't for me. Neither The Whale nor this. Charlie Huston's script doesn't do well for much, especially Zoë Kravitz's role. Austin Butler, Matt Smith, and Regina King do entertain.

Mei Suruga vs Rina Yamashita - Super Asia Championship (ChocoPro 9/5/25)

The end of Mei's 1st title reign as Champion, after a year ish, and here we see Mei more serious. She looked absolutely sensational in this match, proving to be one of the best going. Incredible, smooth match.

****3/4

DR. STRANGELOVE OR: HOW I LEARNED TO STOP WORRYING AND LOVE THE BOMB is a fantastic, hilarious satire that had some incredible, gut busting moments, especially from George C. Scott and Peter Sellers as Mandrake. Stanley Kubrick did his shit.

ONE BATTLE AFTER ANOTHER is PTA back to being PTA after his weakest film so far to me. This feels important, feels needed, and with stunning directing and acting, it blows the mind. Especially that third act. The highest star here, though, is newbie Chase Infiniti. Remarkable!

HARD EIGHT is PTA's debut feature film and it's very enjoyable. You get a surprising charming lead from Philip Baker Hall as Sydney, John C. Reilly and Gwyneth Paltrow are fucked up, with a good performance from Samuel L. Jackson. PSH pops up too for a great cameo.

LICORICE PIZZA just isn't for me. Probably the weakest PTA that feels aimless for me. The premise of the film, 15 year old and 25 year old fall in love, feels completely off PTA and the running anti-Asian gag in the first half also doesn't feel like him. It's pretty, but that's it.

PHANTOM THREAD is another stellar PTA film, and it might be his best. Or my favorite. I didn't realize the talked about toxicity of the main relationship was from BOTH sides, but Alma's just as bad as he is. A beautiful, twisted love that I can get behind.

THE LIFE OF CHUCK is Mike Flanagan being painfully try-hard deep. It's unfortunate, but watching this film, getting intrigued and loving the first act or "Act Three" and then realizing at the end of that really... it had no purpose was upsetting. Performances GOOD, though.

INHERENT VICE is a shockingly amazing time. I felt raptured into this Picture completely, and Joaquin Phoenix gives a surprisingly hell of a performance. Couldn't take my gaze away, along with Katherine Waterston, Josh Brolin, Hong Chau, Owen Wilson, etc. Amazing!

LOVE UNTANGLED is a supremely good, enjoyable Korean romance film. Shin Eunsoo, who I know from the drama TWINKLING WATERMELON, is assured here as the lead with charm and adorableness bouncing off her. Gong Myung bounces off her well. The Gong Yoo cameo was such a double take.

THE MASTER is another stellar Picture from PTA. Saw it when it came out, or around that time, so this is my first revisit and it just hits. The visuals, the 3 starring roles. Amy Adams character might be the most deranged of them all, though. Fantastic film.

AKA CHARLIE SHEEN is a fun enough documentary that for me has some eye opening stuff I didn't know about. The director was the weird part, always with leading statements and getting weirded out when the people interviewed cried. All peculiar, and more focused on the spicy stuff.

THERE WILL BE BLOOD brings another absurd banger from Paul Thomas Anderson. He's quite clearly feeling himself and his brilliance, it's a work of art. Daniel Day-Lewis and Paul Dano do things in this film that are so nasty and intense. Dano, particularly, shines.

ALL THE PRESIDENT'S MEN is staggering in how amazing it is and it isn't overly dramatic. There ain't no twists or loud arguments or severe problems, yet it's one of the most gripping films I've witnessed. The greats are the greats for a reason. RIP Robert Redford.

PUNCH-DRUNK LOVE is the first, for me, full on masterpiece 5 star beauty from Paul Thomas Anderson. It just hit me gobsmacked and didn't stop. His shot layouts were exquisite, the writing was so good, and Adam Sandler was pretty special. I'm so happy I finally watched this.

F1 is a super good, entertaining and fun major Hollywood blockbuster. Everyone acquits themselves well enough, but Kerry Condon and Damson Idris are top notch especially.
September 19, 2025 at 6:18 AM
MAGNOLIA is melodramatic, a little too much, and so amazing. I loved it, I loved Tom's performance here as Frank Mackey, I loved Melora Walters as Claudia, and even the weird son and frogs I just really dug it. Even more than his prior feature.
September 17, 2025 at 7:17 AM
BOOGIE NIGHTS is pretty dope. Don't love it as much as everyone else, but it's still great with some wonderful performances and Paul Thomas Anderson's absurd directing, especially that first party scene. Before I see his latest, felt like running through his unknown filmography.
September 16, 2025 at 6:53 AM
UNKNOWN NUMBER: THE HIGH SCHOOL CATFISH is a fine enough documentary but man, it's just such a twisted story. The perpetrator being who they are, participating in this doc due to their attention seeking wants, is disturbingly hilarious. Gotta feel for Owen and Lauryn.

RED SONJA is B-movie fun, especially with Matilda Lutz and Robert Sheehan. Robert plays a wonderful villain, a former slave looking for his own tyranny while Lutz has some good enough action. With a better budget/script, I'd be down for a sequel.
