It's not because bluesky pushes that content, it's because that content is a large portion of what people post here. That's what happens when you try to grow your numbers by taking people fleeing existing platforms.

Liberals think democracy is when the constituents owe the party their vote the way peasants owe the lord a tribute.

Today's democrats are about the same as George W Bush era Republicans. I can remember when voting for the Iraq War was treated as a disqualifier for liberals but now they're fine with it.

This is literally backwards. The lesser evil has no need to respond to voters who will vote for them regardless. The greater evil can keep getting worse and the lesser evil can keep following them just a little behind.
October 1, 2025 at 8:10 PM
Continuing to vote for the lesser evil has allowed both of them to become more evil, because the lesser evil is only held to the standard of being not quite as bad. If you treat voting as the only political agency you have (it isn't) you need to at least be willing to withhold it to exert pressure.

The current policy does seem in line with shock therapy yeah

The new rules will be going into effect later this month and ban among other things any depiction of "dubious" consent. That kind of "I know it when I see it" ruling has always been used to target whatever the censor simply dislikes, because how do you prove otherwise?
October 1, 2025 at 7:48 PM
These kinds of subject matter censorship rules also tend to silence victims from speaking up.

That's what filters are supposed to be for. Taking away more ways to deal with these pervasive social issues makes it harder to combat them at scale. Not everything is about individual experience, and we are supposed to have methods to protect that anyway.
October 1, 2025 at 7:43 PM
This was supposed to be solved by the filter system. Preventing people discussing or depicting difficult subjects like abuse and violence doesn't protect people.

People started talking about normalizing "goblin mode" and a finger on the monkey paw curled.

Rules like this always get interpreted as liberally as possible and disproportionately enforced against marginalized groups. Even if someone found that content objectionable it would still be a problem.

What's the point in being here if you're just gonna put the same restrictions on us as everywhere else?

You gave us content modoration, we used it, and we thanked you for it.

Censoring certain subjects as a rule is not the way forward. Enhancing the labeling system and enforcing it is the way.
