The rails-to-trails here is fantastic too, although I wish it connected all the way to Victoria along the old Galloping Goose route. Unfortunately that got flooded for Victoria's water reservoir. They finally did make an off-road connection a few years ago, but it's _very_ steep.

Or a BC Ferries customer. I always have this problem with their surveys. Q: "Did we meet your expectations?" A: Well I expected that we'd be late, and we were, so I guess so? Q: "Would you recommend us to your friends/family?" A: I mean, is there another option?

Ironic considering one of the furthest left channels you hosted departed because Nebula wasn’t left enough (and then started their own socialist Nebula clone).

I don’t have a picture, but if you’ve ever wondered “Can ten sheep fit in the back of a minivan?” The answer is yes, they can. Minivans are amazing.

The tunnel shuttle will often let you take a cargo
bike, but it’s at the discretion of the driver so you can’t count on it.

It’s about 20km extra, but you can take the Alex Fraser bridge. To shorten the trip, I sometimes take my cargo bike on Skytrain to 22nd St or Surrey (outside rush hour only). Can’t wait for the new tunnel though (just wish we didn’t need new car infrastructure just to get a bike crossing).

My kids saw one in Victoria, so they've made it off the mainland. I assume there there was a ferry announcement "will the owner of the wank panzer please return to the car deck to turn off your alarm."

The "avid cyclists" who come out against safe infrastructure are often fair-weather weekend recreational "hobbyists" who imagine everyone is like them, whereas the many of the people asking for safer conditions are the ones using their bikes as transportation to get around in all weather year-round.

Does that mean she's only responsible for non-transportation infrastructure (e.g. dams and levees but not roads and rail)? If so, that's unfortunate.
November 21, 2024 at 1:03 AM
I've hoped she would become Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure for years. I'm unclear how the now-split ministry will work (who decides how many lanes and how to design for active transportation?) but sure hope this leads to a big improvement. MOTI hasn't been great up to now.

Transit systems that did a good job of covering non-commute trips also recovered ridership much more quickly after COVID-19 lockdowns and the move to work-from-home for office workers.

My family had the Tandy TRS-80 model 4p. It was "portable" in that it had a front cover and a big handle on the back, but weighed about 30 lbs. I learned a lot on it but was always jealous of people who had a C64 or (later) Amiga.

The chance of full buses is the main reason I end up taking the car much more often than I'd like, because I (and my kids) have to catch the last ferry home, and on some days there's only one #26 and #70 between making it or not, so if either is full or significantly delayed we are stuck overnight.
November 17, 2024 at 1:03 AM
A year and a half is very optimistic, TBH. I think the priority is McKenzie, which is fine. McKenzie is important, and a lot of #70 riders transfer to/from #26 anyway (myself included). I'd just like to see them move way faster with all this stuff so I don't have to resort to a car as often.

and Salt Spring isn't even a municipality!
November 16, 2024 at 9:24 PM
I really hope they get on with RapidBus for the peninsula soon, which should include upgrading these highway stops. #70 is the bus I depend on the most and upping its frequency would be huge.

Are you sure? I'm self-employed but my services are exempt from GST (my clients being outside Canada). However, I can still claim Input Tax Credits for the GST I pay on my expenses. This means I actually receive a refund for my GST paid every year.

I agree in principle, although in this particular case the truck would almost certainly have used the new flyover rather than the left-turn lane and thus avoid this tragedy. But the whole Keating area is atrocious for bikes (which are not even permitted to ride on Keating X Road).
November 14, 2024 at 5:12 PM
This is awful. I sometimes use left-turn lanes on the Pat Bay when I'm in a rush, but rethinking that now. Want more details to understand how it happened, like was the person on the bike stopped in front of the truck, and the truck driver just forgot they were there when the light went green?

To be charitable, you could add "plastic hat" for the people on bikes I suppose.

Incidentally, the CRD offers watershed tours and well worth taking a day out to do, they're really interesting and informative. It includes the treatment plant as well. www.crd.bc.ca/service/publ.... The Hartland Landfill tours are great too.
