Former VR designer and gym rat. My musical tastes are not as cool as yours. I go to too many comedy shows. Talk to me.
There were some great comics at last night’s open mic! Had a pretty bad set myself though. But I’m learning … Man am I ever learning! Taking the night off from my favorite open mic, “Broken Toys,” to watch the city light up the Embarcadero with Kent, Cere and Gwen. The change will do me good.

I think tonight I had the best set I’ve ever had. Several comics and the MC went out of their way to tell me how much they liked it. I think it’s part self confidence, but also the overall vibe of the room. I’m really fond now of the Broken Toys open mic in Oakland.

Tonight I had the best open mic I’ve had in a long time. The audience laughed at every joke. I know that doesn’t sound like much, but it’s been an uphill battle.

I was talking with Claude .ai about a joke I'd written with a Moby Dick reference. It replied, "I think it'll work even if some people don't immediately catch the full Melville of it all."

The Full Melville - Wasn't that the movie about strippers?

Happy Halloween from the DNA. Tonight’s outfit, ”Slutty Speed Racer.”

I’m at a Halloween / Birthday party, dressed as Speed Racer. One of the guests just went up to me trying to figure my outfit and she goes, “Nice Dracula.” Hah!

Did an open mic for the first time in a few weeks. I thought I absolutely sucked, but when the light came on people urged me to stay on. Got high fives from a few comics as well. Whouldathunkit?

RIP Jane Goodall. It was an honor to see you speak back in 2022. You changed so much of our perspective on how we see the world and ourselves. Words cannot truly express.

Just got schooled by ChatGPT again. This time it wrote the line, “Grad school - It’s like Scientology but with fewer job prospects!”

Just finished seeing Taylor Tomlinson at the Paramount. One of the best comedy shows I’ve seen in recent memory. Definitely the first one where the jokes gave me a chill. It should hit Netflix in about six months. Watch for it!

Scored some swag from tonight’s Cyberdelia show at the DNA! Up next, skate ramps and a 30th anniversary screening of the camp classic “Hackers.” I’m decked out in an Amiga t-shirt that has already elicited some compliments.

I love my people!

I’m doing a five minute comedy set in Oakland and, (I swear I’m not making this up), I was just accosted by an ice cream cart with a clown horn tooting away. Break a leg Joe!

Once again, the drinks at the DNA are inspired!

Thanks to Joe Klocek, open mics are getting a little easier. Some more laughs this time. I don’t think I’ll ever get used to the blinding from spotlights though.

Nine Inch Nails just finished their excellent show at the Oakland arena. Happy to cross that off my bucket list. Extra brownie points for the exit music being from Twin Peaks.

So… uh… tonight, instead of telling a joke… I’m going to read the Yellow Pages.

(Audience laughs nervously)

Page one: Aaronson, A. … Aaronson, B.
(A pause)
He’s… dead now.

(Page turns slowly, more names)

…This goes on for three hours. Then I say, “Okay, that was the setup.”

Then I leave.

I asked ChatGPT to write a joke in the style of Andy Kaufman. It was spot on, and pretty much hit that ball out of the park. The routine is long so I’m including it in my next post.

Subject: Cool find of the day

I was rummaging through some books in my mother’s study when I came across what looked like a weathered pamphlet. Turns out it’s a Passover Haggadah that my great grandfather owned. It was printed over 150 years ago. Images down below.
