I agree that floods, droughts and storms are likely to collapse the food system but its reducing greenhouse gas emisssions that will lessen that risk, not reducing the population.

Who is making an arguement for that?
If you read the article its about making sure that there are enough young people in the country to look after the aging, shrinking population. With a birth rate of only 1.4 its going to shrink pretty fast.

Its more of a global problem than a UK one. Red meat consumption in the UK is in a modest decline but as developing countries get richer, their consumption tends to increase.

That's a different point. Should we eat as much beef and lamb as we do if we consider their land footprint for feedstuffs?
